Point-of-Care Test for the Detection of SARS-CoV-2 Antigen in Saliva
Find SARS-CoV-2 is a saliva-based agglutination immunoassay for the detection of the Spike S1 protein antigen of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The assay principle is based on the agglutination of the SARS-CoV-2 viral particles in saliva samples with latex microparticles conjugated with a recombinant VNAR single domain shark antibody. The assay is carried out in a plastic card where the saliva sample is added on both a testing site and in a negative control site. The agglutination between the antigen and the antibody coated microparticles is evaluated by taking a picture of the testing card with the Xplora™ smartphone application which runs an image analysis process and a neural network algorithm to return a positive or a negative result in the smartphone screen after a few seconds.
